Buckland Monachorum is a village and civil parish in West Devon, between open moorland and the River Tavy, about 4 miles from Tavistock and 10 miles north of Plymouth. The parish contains five villages: Buckland Monachorum, Yelverton, Clearbrook, Crapstone and Milton Combe. The village is on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Domesday Book (1086) records it as Bocheland, with 46 households, land for 15 ploughs, a salt pan and a fishery. The name means land of the monks. Buckland Abbey, a Cistercian house, was founded in 1278 (the church's own history gives 1280), and Sir Francis Drake bought the abbey in 1581.

St Andrew's church is Grade I listed. The present building dates from about 1490 in the Perpendicular style, replacing a cross-shaped stone church of about 1350. It has a 70-foot tower with eight bells, sixteen carved oak angels in the roof, a Saxon font found buried in 1857, and a Drake chapel with an 18th-century monument by John Bacon to Lord Heathfield, the defender of Gibraltar. The village has a primary school of about 200 pupils, a Baptist chapel of about 1850, and The Garden House nearby. The shop and post office closed in 2003.
