Two hut circles near Roos Tor

These two stone hut circles are the remains of Bronze Age dwellings, part of the dispersed settlement pattern that characterizes Dartmoor's prehistoric landscape. Built from stone foundations and likely roofed with timber and thatch, they represent domestic life on the moor thousands of years ago.

Today the circles are visible as low stone rings among the moorland vegetation, requiring patience and a practiced eye to read. Their location on open ground, away from shelter, speaks to a different relationship with the landscape than modern settlement patterns. They sit within a wider archaeological context of cairns, field systems and other hut circles scattered across this part of Dartmoor.
