Two cairns near Higher White Tor

These two cairns, positioned roughly 720 and 800 metres east of Higher White Tor, are likely Bronze Age in date. They form part of the dense scatter of burial monuments that characterises this stretch of Dartmoor, evidence of sustained settlement and ritual use of the high moor during the second millennium BC.

Today they stand as low stone mounds in the moorland, their exact form depending on the terrain and centuries of weathering. Visiting them involves walking across open moorland and reading the landscape itself, as these monuments do. Their Scheduled Monument status reflects their archaeological significance as markers of Dartmoor's deep human past.
