The River

By Wistman's Wood and the West Dart, the lonely warrener Nicholas Edgecombe and the dissolute young farmer Timothy Oldreive fall into conflict over the beautiful Hannah Bradridge. Among the moor-folk is Sorrow Scobhull, sure he is fated to drown in the Dart, and the river itself carries the story's fate.
