Hut circle 610m ESE of Nodden Gate

This scheduled monument is a stone hut circle standing on moorland southeast of Nodden Gate. Dating to the Bronze Age, it forms one dwelling in a larger settlement scattered across this part of Dartmoor. The hut circle survives as a low stone foundation, marking where a roundhouse once stood, its walls built from the granite that lies close to the surface here.

Visiting today you will find the remains in open moorland with wide views across the valleys. The hut circle sits within a landscape that still bears the traces of ancient communities who farmed and lived on Dartmoor during the second millennium BC. To walk among these remains is to sense something of the long continuity of human habitation on the moor.
