Stone circle near Sourton Tors

This scheduled monument comprises a stone circle from the Bronze Age, likely built between 4,000 and 3,000 years ago when Dartmoor was more densely settled. Nearby stands a linear alignment of cairns, another common feature of this period of moorland use. The site also contains a cider millstone, evidence of later medieval or post-medieval occupation of the moor when clearance and farming extended into these upland areas.

A boundary ditch marks the site, a mark of changing land management over centuries. Visitors to this open moorland will find themselves in the wide landscape south east of Sourton Tors, where these monuments sit among rough grass and heather. The remains are modest but speak to the long occupation and use of Dartmoor's high ground by successive generations.
