Sheeps Tor stands high above the village of the same name, near Burrator Reservoir. It is known for its striking eastern cliff, which resembles basalt columns, and the nearby Pixies Cave, believed to be a haunt of Devonshire fairies. The tor offers fine views across south-west Dartmoor and has a history of rock climbing and bouldering. A legend tells of Lord Elford hiding in a cave during the Civil War.
