Routrundle Pound is a scheduled monument and one of several animal pounds scattered across Dartmoor. These are stone-built enclosures, dating from the medieval period onwards, where livestock could be temporarily held, often when strays were rounded up from the open moor or disputes over ownership needed settling.
Today the site remains as low stone walls marking the pound's outline, a practical reminder of how moorland communities managed grazing rights and stock. It sits within the wider landscape of Dartmoor's enclosed and open land, visible to walkers and part of the moor's long history of pastoral use.
