Round cairn near Wedlake Farm

This round cairn stands on the open moorland east of Wedlake Farm, a characteristic Bronze Age burial monument. Built from stones heaped over a grave, such cairns were placed prominently in the landscape as enduring markers of the dead and territorial claims of Bronze Age communities across Dartmoor.

Today the cairn remains as a low mound among the heather and grass, part of the dense archaeology of the moor. Its position offers views across the eastern plateau, and it sits within a wider Bronze Age landscape of similar monuments, settlements and field systems that shaped Dartmoor in the second millennium BC.
