Richard Doddridge Blackmore
Teddington, Devon
Richard Doddridge Blackmore was born on 7 June 1825 at Longworth, Berkshire, and died on 20 January 1900 at Teddington. He studied at Exeter College, Oxford, was called to the Bar in 1852, and ran a fruit-growing market garden at Teddington.
He is best known for Lorna Doone (1869), set on Exmoor. Christowell (1882) is subtitled A Dartmoor Tale.
