This scheduled monument preserves the earthwork traces of a settlement dating to the Bronze Age or earlier Iron Age, when Dartmoor's higher ground supported scattered communities. The enclosure would have contained roundhouses and associated structures, their positions marked today by low banks and ditches visible across the moorland.
