Pound

Grid ref: SX 5534 6285

This scheduled monument represents a Bronze Age or Iron Age settlement on Dartmoor's open moorland north of Hawk's Tor. The site comprises a pound, a drystone-walled livestock enclosure, and the remains of at least two hut circles where people once lived. The structures are subtle but visible in the heather and grass, revealing how communities used this high ground for pastoral life.

Walking here, you stand among the remnants of Dartmoor's deepest past. These settlements are scattered across the moor wherever water, shelter and grazing converge. The pound and hut circles form part of a wider Bronze Age landscape that shaped how people and animals lived on Dartmoor for thousands of years.
