This Scheduled Monument is the remains of a prehistoric settlement dating to the Bronze Age, when scattered communities lived and worked across Dartmoor's uplands. The site consists of partially enclosed stone hut circles, evidence of domestic structures that would once have sheltered families and their livestock on this exposed moorland slope.
Today, visiting the site means walking among low stone foundations and enclosure walls, reading the landscape to understand how people organised their lives here thousands of years ago. Steeperton Tor provides a commanding position on the north eastern moor, and the settlement's placement reflects both practical concerns and the ancient inhabitants' relationship with the land they inhabited.
