John Trevena

John Trevena was the pen name of Ernest George Henham (1870-1948), who wrote around thirty books between 1897 and 1927 under his own name and this pseudonym. He is best known for a trilogy of Dartmoor novels - Furze the Cruel (1907), Heather (1908) and Granite (1909) - which he said corresponded to three qualities he found everywhere on the moor: the furze suggesting cruelty, the heather endurance, and the granite strength. He also wrote several further Dartmoor-set novels through the 1910s and 1920s.
