Hut enclosure N of Old Hill

This hut enclosure lies on the open moorland north of Old Hill, one of many Bronze Age settlements scattered across Dartmoor. The site comprises the earthwork remains of a cluster of round huts, typical of the communities that farmed and lived on the moor in prehistory. The low stone walls and platforms are now grassed over, visible to the eye but subtle in the landscape.

Standing here, you experience the same moorland terrain these people knew, a high open plateau with distant views. The enclosure is one of thousands of Bronze Age sites on Dartmoor, each telling of a time when the moor supported a thriving population. Protected as a scheduled monument, it offers insight into how people lived on this high ground in the distant past.
