The Devonport Leat was built in the 1790s to bring fresh water from Dartmoor to the growing dockyards of Plymouth. It starts near Wistman's Wood and meanders across the moor, following the natural contours of the land. Much of its original route is now dry, but it still carries water to Burrator Reservoir, which supplies Plymouth. Sections of the leat include granite channels, an aqueduct, and a tunnel, with parts of its old course now repurposed for water pipes.
