Cross NE of Nun's Cross

On walking routes: Abbot's Way

This is a scheduled monument cross of medieval origin, situated on the high ground northeast of the better-known Nun's Cross. Like other crosses scattered across Dartmoor, it likely served as a wayside marker for travellers crossing the moor, possibly associated with monastic routes or pack routes that linked communities on either side of the plateau.

Today the cross remains a modest but enduring feature of the moorland landscape, testament to centuries of human movement across Dartmoor. Its position among open ground and moorland vegetation offers views across the surrounding moor and speaks to the navigational needs of medieval and later travellers in this exposed terrain.
