Cairn

This cairn forms part of a cairnfield scattered across Longstone Hill, remnants of Bronze Age burial and ritual activity on the open moor. Like other cairnfields on Dartmoor, it represents a period when communities used the high ground for ceremonies and the dead, leaving these stone mounds as markers across the landscape.

Today the cairn stands among others on the moorland, weathered by centuries but still legible as a human work. Walking here, you move through layers of Dartmoor's deep past, where such monuments pepper the high plateaus and ridge lines. The site's scheduled monument status reflects its archaeological importance and fragility.
