Cairn

This cairn forms part of a cairnfield on Homerton Hill, evidence of Bronze Age activity on the open moor. Cairnfields like this one represent deliberate, organised use of the landscape, likely linked to burial, ritual or territorial markers. The multiple cairns would have been visible across the moorland, marking the presence of communities living and working here thousands of years ago.

Today the cairn survives as a stone heap on the moorside, one monument among many that pepper Dartmoor. It sits within a scheduled monument designation, recognising its archaeological importance. Walking across Homerton Hill, you encounter these Bronze Age remains as part of the moor's layered history, where the landscape itself holds the record of those who shaped it.
