Blackaton Ball tin mill

Blackaton Ball tin mill is a scheduled monument marking one of the many industrial sites that shaped Dartmoor's landscape from the medieval period onwards. Tin extraction and processing were central to the moor's economy for centuries, and this mill would have been part of the infrastructure needed to crush and separate ore from the raw tin-bearing material brought down from the workings higher on the moor.

Today visitors will find earthworks and structural remains scattered across the site, evidence of the machinery and watercourses that powered the milling process. Like many Dartmoor industrial sites, it sits in a landscape now returned largely to moorland and forestry, a quiet reminder of the intensive human activity that once characterised these hills.
