Birch Tor sits high above one of Dartmoor's most mined areas, split into two main sections. The southern part is more statuesque, while the northern section offers views of Birch Tor Barrow, a prehistoric mound. Evidence of the last working tin mine on Dartmoor, Vitifer Mine, can still be seen nearby. The tor is prominent from the B3212 road and offers good views over central Dartmoor.
