Partly enclosed hut circle settlement, Kennon Hill

This partly enclosed settlement of stone hut circles sits on Kennon Hill and dates from the Bronze Age, when upland Dartmoor supported scattered farming communities. The stone foundations and circular forms of the hut circles are still visible in the landscape today, marking where families once lived and worked the moorland.

Like many such settlements across Dartmoor, this site tells of a time when the moor was less wild and more heavily used. Walking here, you can trace the outlines of dwellings and imagine the routines of people who built their lives on this exposed upland, managing livestock and crops in a climate warmer than today's.
