Our Dartmoor
March 2026 update: The directory is currently being rebuilt and expanded. If you'd like to submit a listing, a business, website, Facebook page, organisation, or anything else Dartmoor-related (I'm open to all ideas here) please get in touch.
New entries (and ideas) are very welcome.
One place for everything
Finding reliable, well-organised information about Dartmoor has always been much harder than it needs to be. Useful content is scattered across dozens of sites, social media accounts, and even local knowledge that never even makes it online at all.
Our Dartmoor exists to change that. It's a structured, independently maintained directory covering the full breadth of life on and around the moor. From farmers and artists to Search and Rescue teams, walking routes, pubs, heritage sites, and community groups.
The directory is built and curated by photographer Glavind Strachan, with years of experience working across Dartmoor and the wider Westcountry. The wesbite draws on direct knowledge of the area, original research, and contributions from people within the Dartmoor community.
What will be on the directory?
The goal is comprehensive coverage: farmers and smallholders, artists and craftspeople, businesses of every kind, charities and community organisations, leisure and outdoor activities, heritage and history, and the individuals who make Dartmoor what it is.
Listings are researched individually and include contact details, location data, social media, and descriptions written specifically for the directory. Quality matters more than quantity. Every entry is verified before it goes live.
If you notice a mistake, or have know of something or someone who belongs here and isn't listed yet, submit a suggestion.
what's it going to cost?
Free to list, free to use
There's no charge to be listed in the directory, and no charge to use it. The site is independently run and ad-free by default.
If it grows to the point where sponsorship or advertising makes sense, any such arrangement will be clearly disclosed and kept separate from editorial decisions.
There are no stupid questions
I really only have a vague idea about how to put this together, based upon my own experiences on Dartmoor and trying to find information about Dartmoor.
I'm already realising that the simplest task of building the categories for my listings is a minefield in itself 🤣
If you do something out of the ordinary, or you think somebody or something you know about, should be involved, share this website with them, or pass along their details.
About the curator
Our Dartmoor is created and maintained by Paul, a professional photographer based on the edge of Dartmoor. Paul has spent years documenting the landscape, and characters of the moor and the directory grew out of that immersion in the place.
If you have a connection to Dartmoor and want to be involved: as a contributor, a listed business, or just someone with local knowledge to share please get in touch.
